HDSCS members staffed both the Hospital Disaster Communications and transmitter hunting activities as part of a ham radio demo at the annual Long Beach area Scout-O-Rama. This was the sixth year of HDSCS participation. The simulated hospital stations were set up by Dennis Kidder W6DQ. Besides the on-site members pictured below, the following members helped from home by QSOing with the Scouts: Paul Broden K6MHD, Allen Bullock KD6LCL, Jim McLaughlin AB6UF, Ralph Swanson WB6JBI, John Walker AC7GK and Dave West KI6EPI.

The complete Amateur Radio display had three tents: At left was a HF/VHF station operated by members of the Amateur Radio Association of Long Beach (ARALB), a transmitter hunting activity in the middle, and HDSCS on the right.

Michael Fox W6MJF and other ARALB members were in an adjacent tent, letting Scouts experience Morse Code.

Scouts also had the opportunity to track down some of the 14 tiny radio transmitters that were hidden throughout the park. Helping them were Tom Gaccione WB2LRH (upper left), Jay Thompson W6JAY (upper right), Marvin Johnston KE6HTS (center left), Richard Thompson WA6NOL (center right) and Joe Moell KØOV. All are HDSCS members except Marvin, who is a radio-orienteer from Santa Barbara.
